Playground Leaving 'Fortnite' Soon, But Full Creative Mode Is In Development

Epic Games has announced that the limited time mode Playground in “Fortnite” battle royale will officially leave the game on July 12. The developer also confirmed that it is removing Playground LTM, so that it may introduce some changes.

“We appreciate all of the awesome feedback we’ve received and are beginning work on the next version of Playground. We’ll be turning off the Playground LTM on Thursday, July 12th as we take it back under construction for the next version,” Epic Games said on Reddit. “For the next version of Playground we’re hoping to include functionality that would allow team selection options within the Playground itself.”

Potentially, the next version of Playground that Epic Games is teasing will bring in some new ways to play and other improvements. The developer said that the ability to select teams would allow players to do more things in the game, such as:

  • Doing 1v1s and 2v2s
  • Aiming assist for controllers
  • Editing other player’s structures
  • Trapping affecting teammates/enemies correctly
  • Highlighting teammates on the map
  • Damaging enemies with your pickaxe

“The Playground LTM represents our first step into what a full creative mode looks like in ‘Fortnite.’ And remember, you will have until the release of v5.0 to access your Playground LTM replays,” the developer said.

Playground LTM was officially launched on “Fortnite” battle royale on June 27. It was quickly taken down just hours after its release due to issues related to matchmaking. The limited time mode finally went online this week after several days of downtime.

Playground LTM is more of a relaxed game mode that allows players to explore the map and play around with up to three friends. The mode acts a lot like a private server and players are able to respawn when they’ve been eliminated by their friends. Each match lasts for an hour and the storm circle won’t start closing in until 55 minutes into the match, according to GameSpot. Friendly fire is enabled in Playground and players can just practice their aim or practice building structures.

Playground LTM in “Fortnite” has become a very popular limited time mode. It’s so popular that some players have found creative ways of utilizing the low-pressure environment to build amazing structures. One of the more popular ones from this week was a “Mario Kart” race track built around Tilted Towers, as reported by Kotaku. Epic Games has clearly seen the potential of Playground LTM in “Fortnite,” which is probably the reason why it is building a full creative mode.
