TODAY

Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism will partner with Valley Fair Baptist Church, Serenity Charity Club, and Horsecreek Masonic District to host its Annual School Supply Giveaway today from noon to 2 p.m. at the Aiken County Recreation Center. Supplies and refreshments for all children, while items last. Everyone swims free. If anyone is interested in donating school supplies or food, contact Tandra Cooks at 803-663-6142.

The second preliminary pageant for the Little Miss/Teen Miss South Carolina Pageant will be held today and Sunday at the amphitheater on the campus of Aiken Tech, 2276 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville. For more information or to request an application, email frielspaz@gmail.com.

The Off the Hook Crochet Group will meet from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. today at the Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St. S.W. The group is open to anyone interested in crochet. A Back 2 School Bash will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. today at the Churches Together for Kids Office, 231 Main St. S., Wagener. The first 500 students will receive sports tote bags.

A Back2School Giveaway will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Second Baptist Church, 425 Hampton Ave. N.W. The event, sponsored by the Free Riders Motorcycle Club, will provide students with book bags and school supplies. The event also will feature free food, games, prizes and music.

dog wash will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare, 199 Willow Run Road. The cost is $20 for a bath or $30 for bath with nail trim/ear cleaning for dogs 30 pounds or less; $25 for a bath or $35 for bath with nail trim/ear cleaning; and $30 for a bath or $40 for a bath with nail trim/ear cleaning for dogs 60 pounds or more. An AARP Driver’s Safety class will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Cumberland Village, 3335 Wise Creek Lane. The cost is $15 for AARP member and $20 for non-members. SUNDAY 

The Augusta GreenJackets in partnership with SRP Federal Credit Union and WOW! Internet, Cable & Phone are collecting school supplies to donate to students in need. Fans who bring supplies to the the GreenJackets game on Sunday will be entered to win several prizes. Supplies will be donated to the United Way of Aiken County.

MONDAY 

A Conversation About Progress: A Community Dialogue will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday in the Penland Administration building on the campus of USC Aiken, 471 University Parkway. For more information, visit savevaucluse.org.

The Material Girls, Aiken’s American Sewing Guild group, will meet at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 1630 Silver Bluff Road. Guests are welcome. The Aiken County Commission for Technical and Comprehensive Education will meet at 5:15 p.m. Monday in the Ashley J. Little Administration Building on the campus of Aiken Technical College, 2276 Jefferson Davis Highway.

Edgefield County Youth Empowerment Center will hold a graduation ceremony for its Job Readiness for Teens program at 6:30 p.m. Monday at 117 Cardinal Drive, Johnston. Sen. Shane Massey, R-Edgefield, will be the keynote speaker.

TUESDAY 

The Aiken Newcomers’ Club will meet Tuesday at Newberry Hall, 117 Newberry St. Doors open at 10:45 a.m. followed by a business meeting at 11:15 a.m. and lunch at 11:30 a.m. There will be no program this month. The Crosland Park Neighborhood Association host a Government to Your Neighborhood meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Community Resource Center, 1248 Crosland Drive N.E. Scheduled speakers will be Aiken Mayor Rick Osbon, Aiken City Councilwoman Gail Diggs, Public Safety Chief Charles Barranco, Aiken County Council Chairman Gary Bunker, County Councilman Willar Hightower and Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt. An evening meal of barbecue, coleslaw, potato salad and baked beans will be served. A question and answer session will follow. Seating is limited and early arrival is recommended.
