At 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the main library, make a mini picture book with a colorful surprise inside at Exploding Books, part of the Afternoon Adventures series for school-age kids and their families.

At 7 p.m. Thursday at the main library, join local author and entrepreneur Mary Shores to learn easy-to-follow, step-by-step practices for achieving your life goals at Power Up! Essentials for Empowering Your Life, part of the Power Up at Your Library summer series.

From noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the main library, find out what makes a good brand and best practices for developing your own brand from Scott Clanin at What’s In a Brand?, part of the library’s Marketing Workshop series. Sign up at champaign.org/events or call 217-403-2070.

Urbana Free Library

At 6:30 p.m. Monday in the the Busey-Mills Reading Room, check out the Seattle-based folk music duo Mr. and Mrs. Something as they share an evening of stories and songs from their new album, “Turn the Page!”

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, children and their families are invited to take part in sidewalk chalk fun in Cherry Alley.

At 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the children’s area, kids 5 and up can learn to play chess.

Danville Public Library

From 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday in the first-floor meeting room, the Genealogy Club will explore U.S. Census records from 1850-1940.

At 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the children’s program room, youths 8 to 11 can attend the Tween 3-D Printer Class. Registration is required; the class is limited to five participants.

At 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the children’s program room, kids 5 to 11 can construct Lego creations during Builder’s Club. Children under 8 must be accompanied by a caregiver.
