Celebrate connecting with your kids at Tykes & Teens' free Family Day

STUART — Family Day is a national campaign that celebrates simple, everyday things that parents can do to connect with their kids.

Sharing frequent meals together, playing games, and engaging in conversation have all been proven to reduce the likelihood that children will use drugs in the future.

During the last week of September, Family Day brings together communities across the country to celebrate the positive influence parents have on their kids.

In Martin County, Tykes & Teens is leading the Family Day campaign and incorporating a healthy eating component.

They have partnered with several community organizations including United Way of Martin County and its CHARACTER COUNTS! program to host free events for families that are designed to encourage positive family interaction and healthy eating.

Events include:

• Jensen Beach:  Friday, Sept. 21, 6-9 p.m. at Langford Park.

Join Martin County Parks and Recreation, FL Dept. of Health, Martin County and Healthy Chef Doctor Mitchell Kershner for an evening of family fun and an informative presentation about healthy eating.

Activities will include field games, arts & crafts, karaoke and healthy food samples.

• Golden Gate: Monday, Sept., 24, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Golden Gate Center for Enrichment.
