Of all the summer lovers—your Ariana Grandes and Pete Davidsons, your Jo Bros and their betrotheds—who will make it to the finish line first? It’s a race (it’s always a race!), and we must know who will win. The accepted wisdom is that these short courtships will fall to long engagements, but in some cases, the young and be-ringed are moving along at quite a strident clip.
Nick Jonas got an early start on his road to marrying one of the biggest stars in the world, Priyanka Chopra. The singer and his family went to Mumbai in August for the roka ceremony, wherein both sides of the family show that they approve this marriage. Then they had an engagement party. They’re as good as married!
Now, though, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin are making a break for the front of the pack. Onlookers saw the wee babies at the New York City Marriage Bureau on Thursday, per TMZ. One said Bieber was crying in excitement. Crying! Allegedly! Anyway, they presumably got their marriage license, so that’s a big, hearty step toward the altar.
Earlier that day, Baldwin had been promoting bareMinerals with some beauty editors and told them that she wanted a wooded wedding with “lights strung everywhere.” She reiterated that they are aiming for sometime in 2019 (which, dare I remind you, is rapidly approaching). She also knows that you think 22 is too young for her to get married, and Bieber’s 24 years on this Earth are too few as well. But she disagrees. “My sister was 24 when she got married, and my parents also got married when they were young, too. I see no reason to wait. When you know it’s right, it’s right,” she said.
Her parents are on board, too. “I said to them, ‘You’d stop me if you didn’t think this was the right decision, right? And they didn’t,” she added. “I think they love him more than me!”
Which is certainly true. We’ve all seen that video of Stephen Baldwin introducing his daughter to Bieber in 2009, and he is stoked.
