Michelle Hall is a 58-year-old retired high school teacher. She was feeling “old” and decided to treat herself with a style refresh.

Michelle has fine and naturally wavy hair. It was previously coloured and had faded to a brassy copper-red tone. I wanted to keep her colour in the warm family but refine it to suite her complexion and eye colour.

I applied foils highlights around her face and strategically throughout her hair to brighten around it up. I then tapped in a cool, copper-brown permanent colour to her background foundation, and used the same colour in a demi-permanent formula for depth, to her mid-lengths.

I shampooed her hair using KMS Tame Frizz — Shampoo and Conditioner for frizz reduction and manageability. I added KMS California Moist Repair — Revival Crème through her hair as a leave-in conditioner, then sectioned her hair into a central vertical parting. I felt that her length was dragging her face down so I cut her hair into a cropped directional one-length shape. I incorporated internal layers to enhance her natural texture and for added body and movement.

Before styling, I applied KMS Free Shape — Hot Flex Cream for heat activated smoothing and shaping. I blow dried her hair with a soft side sweep, which enhances her lovely cheekbones, then curled her hair with a curling wand. I finished the look with KMS Hair Play — Dry Wax for dimensional texture.

I evened out Michelle’s complexion with medium coverage foundation. I contoured her face using bronzing powder and added a coral-pink blush to the apples of her cheeks. I lined her eyes with plum eye pencil and coated her lashes with black mascara. I filled in her eyebrows to frame her face and define her eyes, then applied a neutral lip colour to tie the entire look together.
