GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)- It’s a weekend full of celebration for Tom Petty fans in North Central Florida.
The Gainesville native is being honored in more ways than one during his birthday weekend.
Although it’s been more than a year since the passing of Tom Petty, he’s still living in the hearts of Gainesville residents through his music.
“We’re really excited about it, we’re happy to see all these faces out here and that amazing stage and everybody here because they love Tom Petty and they love music and they love our town. So it makes me happy,” Jason Hedges of Gainesville said.
Hedges is one of the organizers for the Tom Petty Birthday Bash at Depot Park.
It’s a free event with lots of live music and food. the event kicked off Friday night and will start all over again Saturday at 1pm.
Just a couple blocks from Depot Park is Heartwood Soundstage.
The venue is also hosting events through this Sunday showcasing local artists and Petty-inspired art.
