Chan Sung Jung was given his nickname, “The Korean Zombie” due to his fighting style. Never one to take a backward step, Jung marched forward no matter how much damage he received and looked for the finish. That style earned him a lot of fans and respect. It also earned him a UFC featherweight title shot.

Jung fell short in his bid to become the 145-pound champion. Jose Aldo stopped Jung by TKO in the fourth round of their UFC 163 bout back in Aug. 2013. After that defeat, Jung took some time off to tend to injuries and so he could serve his mandatory military service in the South Korean Army.

Jung didn’t return to the UFC until Feb. 2017. The promotion didn’t waste any time in getting the fan-favorite back into a high-profile bout. His comeback fight headlined UFC Fight Night 104 at Toyota Center in Houston. Jung faced Dennis Bermudez in that bout. At the time, Bermudez was on a 9-2 run and itching to get a title shot of his own.

Jung took some heavy shots from Bermudez in the early going, but he stayed true to his “Korean Zombie” nickname and marched his opponent down. Then, at the 2:49 mark of the first stanza, Jung knocked out Bermudez. The stoppage victory earned Jung his fifth fight-night bonus in five UFC fights.

An injury kept Jung from capitalizing on that win. Now, 21 months since he stopped Bermudez, Jung returns to the octagon to face Yair Rodriguez in the main event of UFC Fight Night 139, which takes place on Saturday night at Pepsi Center in Denver.

Before Jung faces Rodriguez, be sure to watch his knockout victory over Bermudez.
