Get festive at one of these 6 Christmas tree lightings in Boston

Once again, it’s time to watch Boston’s Christmas trees light up for the season, and the festivities begin this month. Ahead, discover six festive tree-lighting events taking place across the city.

Santa and his elves will be part of the Macy’s tree lighting at 5 p.m. Nov. 23 in Downtown Crossing. The fun begins at 2 p.m. in the children’s department of the store, where families can pose for photos with Santa and take part in family-friendly activities. The lighting will take place outside on Summer Street, where the store will unveil its festive holiday windows as well. The Boston Children’s Choir, Grammy-nominated R&B singer Keri Hilson, and indie pop/rock duo Heffron Drive will all perform. (Friday, Nov. 23 at 5 p.m.; 450 Washington St., Boston)

You’ll hear plenty of live music at the Copley Square Tree Lighting, where performers will include vocalist Mark “Sing” Robertson, the Boston Children’s Chorus, the Boston Pops Brass Quintet, and Berklee College of Music’s Natalie Daniela Castro Diaz. The lighting will take place Nov. 26 from 5 to 6 p.m. Guests can enjoy light refreshments at the free event, as well as appearances by Mayor Walsh, NECN’s Jenny Johnson, Santa Claus, and Rudolph. After the lighting, the Fairmont Copley Plaza will host a family reception for all in attendance, with cookie decorating and photos with Santa. (Monday, Nov. 26 from 5 p.m.-6 p.m.; Copley Square, Boston)

Watch the 60-foot Norwegian spruce tree in Faneuil Hall light up with synchronized music on Nov. 27 at 7:30 p.m. during a live broadcast on WBZ-TV. Light and Sound Show,” where thousands of blinking lights are synchronized to music. The show will take place every half hour throughout the season and feature six new songs including “Hallelujah” by Pentatonix, “All I Want For Christmas” by Mariah Carey, “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Johnny Mathis, “Ring Christmas Bells (Carol of the Bells)” by the Ray Conniff Singers, “Wizards of Winter” by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” by The Jackson 5. (Tree lighting Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7:30 p.m.; Blink! Celebrate the holiday season by watching a free skating show at 5 p.m. Nov. 29 on the Boston Common Frog Pond, courtesy of the Skating Club of Boston. The show will include national and international competitors, Team Excel Synchronized Skating, and performances by Theatre on Ice of Boston. Following the show, Mayor Walsh will take part in the 77th annual tree lighting on the Common. (Thursday, Nov. 29 at 5 p.m.; 38 Beacon St., Boston)

Join a waterfront holiday celebration at 6 p.m. Nov. 30 on the Seaport Common, where you’ll hear live music, enjoy treats from nearby restaurants, take part in giveaways, and, of course, witness the Christmas tree lighting, during the third annual Light Up Seaport event.
