TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The McDonald’s off South Topeka Boulevard could soon get a makeover.
“We hope in mid-May, maybe close to Memorial Day, to bulldoze that site,” Patrick Manning said. “We will replace it with a state-of-the-art, brand new McDonalds.”
Manning, who is the marketing supervisor for several northeast Kansas-area McDonald’s, says plans are in the works and it will be a carbon copy of the McDonald’s off 21st Street, which reopened in September 2018.
“It really got our feet wet last fall and last summer,” Manning said. “Now we know what to expect, and we’re very excited for the South Topeka Boulevard project.”
Manning’s company owns eight of the nine McDonald’s locations in the Capital City.
The Topeka Planning Commission voted seven to zero in favor of two zoning changes required for the new project. The city’s governing body is expected to vote Jan. 19.
If approved, the restaurant should reopen in September with more jobs.
“We’ll probably look to hire 30 to 40 additional people with the new restaurant,” Manning said.
The fast food chain’s busiest Topeka location at SE 29th and California is next up for a rebuild — that’s planned for 2020.
